O Jazz Manouche surge em França, em meados dos anos 30, como expressão musical do povo cigano de etnia manouche e o grande impulsionador foi Django Reinhardt.
Django teve uma forte influência do swing norte-americano (Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington ou Coleman Hawkins) bem como das suas raízes e heranças familiares.
